About Nicolle – Massage and Aromatherapy in Cornwall
Hello, my name is Nicolle Mitchell.
I have been practicing holistic massage & body work since 1998. As a professional bodyworker I am a member
of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) & the Complementary Therapists Association CThA). I integrate many forms of massage to give you the best possible treatment you need.
I was born in Glasgow in 1968, & raised in the Southeast of England. In 1990, I became a part–time youth worker in under–privileged estates, & so embarked on a journey that was to introduce me to the power of touch, herbs & oils.
This job opened up an opportunity to become a residential care worker, & for 8 years I became involved in caring for abused & neglected children, who often presented challenging behaviour & emotional difficulties.
During this career, I trained in play therapy, direct work and counselling, helping the children to heal their hurt, & come to terms with their past.
Lured by the sea & stunning countryside, I moved to Cornwall in 1997, & trained to become a massage therapist. Since qualifying and starting my own business, I have also qualified in postgraduate courses, & constantly keep up to date with the most
recent research in the field of health, dementia & cancer.
I have experience in treating many clients including people with dementia or special needs. I support women through their pregnancy & post natally. I treat children, people with chronic health problems, mental health issues or those who wish to manage anxiety or stress. I also enjoy delivering pamper packages for those who wish to indulge themselves.
Once a week I visit a nursing home where I treat people who live with dementia. I offer palliative care to people who wish to improve their quality of life or are at the end of their life & require assistance towards a dignified & gentle death. I integrate validation therapy & reminiscence therapy into my work where appropriate to give my clients the most holistic experience possible. My treatments are about giving clients a space to express themselves, to offer them reassurance & helping give a sense of peace, comfort & acceptance.
I ensure that person centred care is at the heart of what I do, treating everyone individually.
In March 2000, I launched my own brand of aromatherapy products called T.L.C. in a Bottle. This blossomed when I started to send a little T.L.C. in a bottle to friends and family when I was unable to be with them in times of need, poor health or grief.
The impact of these health & beauty products and their properties created such a demand that I decided to produce a line of products with the personal touch of mixing up something especially if someone needed it. They now complement my practice & I keep a range of products in my clinic for people who may need to continue with support at home. All my TLC is 100% natural & sustainably sourced with the environment in mind. Similarly, I deliver my practice with the same ethos at all times using only 100% natural & organic ingredients. So you can be sure only the best quality products will be used on your body in my clinical practice.
I managed a clinic for 7 years which was the home of numerous therapists offering a wide variety of treatments. I decided to become a sole practitioner when I had my daughter, as I wanted to spend more time with my family.
In 2008 I started to develop a course; "Massaging People who have Dementia" which I now deliver across the UK. This received an "Excellence in Practice ~ Innovation" award from the Federation of Holistic Therapists in October 2012.
My editorials on the subject of touch & massage, notably in the field of dementia, have been published in professional journals. I continue to write for publications who wish to cover my specialist subjects. The FHT consult with me about advice on dementia, mental health issues, ergonomics & other subjects.
I deliver presentations & demonstrations about meaningful touch & dementia on behalf of the FHT, to memory cafes & other organisations, & develop & run bespoke training & workshops for individuals & organisations who wish to use nurturing touch as a means of communicating without words & improving the lives of people who live with dementia.
I am passionate about integrating all medicine; I firmly believe that there is an appropriate time & place for medicine ~ whether it be good nutrition & exercise, a regular massage or surgery. My vision is to see natural medicine become a genuine affordable option for everyone.
I am very lucky to have such rewarding & colourful work. Everyday brings new challenges, smiles & lessons …. most of which my clients teach me.
In my personal time, I love to have fun beach–combing & dog walking with my family, tending our land, reading, eating good healthy food, slowing down over a cuppa & having a natter with friends, playing boardgames, listening to music, dancing & oh yes ~
enjoying a regular massage.
Have fun & be well,
Warm wishes, Nicolle.
